BrisFest 2011

The summer returns to Bristol for one last time this weekend as BrisFest takes over Lloyds Amphitheatre during the day and then a dozen venues around town during the night as part of Rave on Avon. Organised by only one full-time member of staff and a small army of volunteers, BrisFest was formed as a community festival for Bristol after the demise of the Ashton Court Festival.

Today sees the start of this year’s festival, featuring  a packed programme of music, arts, circus, theatre and comedy taking place from today and across the weekend.

You may have already seen a large dome appear which will be one of the seven outdoor stages.

Also returning to the festival site is turf, bringing a taste of a traditional festival to the city, as well as food stalls, cabaret tents, art installations, free workshops and more.

An exciting new addition this year is the use of the At-Bristol underground car park next door to the festival site which, according to festival organisers, “will become an interactive digital vortex of visuals and art as well as The Bank Vault – where crazy carnival folk will co-opt you into a magical adventure of cabaret and of course, music”.

Statistics time: from just £8 a day you can experience more than 200 bands and 150 DJs, with 35 hours of music, digital art, stand-up comedy, wacky games and festival vibes. A wristband gets you into the outdoor festival in the city centre and then 12 nightclubs for an almighty all-night party.
