Review: Bon Jovi, Ashton Gate

In a first for this blog, the following review of Bon Jovi at Ashton Gate, Bristol has been crowd-sourced from Twitter. As Vici Sage (@HarmonyBeadComp) said earlier tonight: “Why pay £90 to go see Bon Jovi when you can listen to them free in the back garden!”

@jmorell also enjoyed the free concert in his back garden, as did @Dluxeonline who earns extra points for taking this fabulous photo of a fan with a hairstyle straight out of Bon Jovi’s 80s heyday heading to the gig down North Street.

For the Bristol Twitterati, the main issue of the day seemed to be the traffic, except for Ali Slater (@ali_slater) who narrowly averted a stampede as the gig came to a conclusion: “I almost got undressed in front of the window, then remembered there is a massive crowd of Bon Jovi fans in full view! Phew!”

But back to the traffic issues. @donnamodern urged her followers to “hunt bon jovi down and give him what for”, while Emma Woodhouse (@Cloggins) reported that “Bristol city centre in total gridlock. Assume it’s all the fault of that fella they call Jon Bon Jovi.”

Daryl Parsons’ (@bs13gas) dad was working at the gig. We’re not sure what he was doing, but the pay seemed to make up for the fact that he was at Ashton Gate watching Bon Jovi: “My poor dad has just left to go to trashton gate for the night, he has to sit through bon jovi too. At least he’s getting paid £20 an hr!!!”

There were not too many compliments being said on Twitter about the gig, nor the fans. “If you haven’t got a perma tan & going to Bon Jovi tonight you might feel out of place if what’s in @HenAndChicken is anything to go by!!” warned Julian Sarsby (@ImbibingNow).

Hayley Constantine (@hayles) was a concise critic: “Dear Bon Jovi, I hate you.”

@djfiremansam was also not enjoying the sound of soft rock from his house: “All I can hear is Jon Bon Jovi and 25thousand middle aged women singing along. When will this concert end!!!!”

Even some of those who were in the stadium were not won over. Georgie Starkie (@runninggeorgie) said: “At Bon Jovi in Bristol. He’s about as rock n roll as I am, started half an hour early to get an early night and wearing a leg brace!!” She later tweeted: “So far he’s done Jazz Hands twice, which is also low on the rock n roll spectrum…..”

It was perhaps unsurprising that Heart FM drivetime presenter Tim Lichfield (@timlichfield) enjoyed the show. He summed it up in one word: “Wahey!”

Our final word will go to Helen Rogerson (@hrogerson), who took over an hour to get home from work last night:  “My tea is running late, all thanks to Bon Jovi!”

  1. Mike says:

I know Bon jovi are not everybodys favourite like any other band or performer however Bon Jovi , have never been away over the last decade they have done the 2000 crush tour world which ran into 2001 one wild night , 2003 Bounce tour 2006 have a nice day world tour , 2007 opened the o2, 2008 Lost highway world tour ,2010 12 sold out nights at the 02 , into great hits in 2011 and they did all this with out the media to hype it up such as other bands which are constantly rammed dont your necks through media . They appeal to every age group not middle only aged women , those attending were men and women of all ages , kids and students. For those that knocked the concert there were 25000 there actually enjoying it.

  2. They were awesome, I was only being sarcastic. Lost on some obviously……
