Attic

Something magical happens every time you order a tea in Attic on the small strip of shops on Coldharbour Road in Westbury Park. Your tea is served in a special Attic tea maker and a glass mug. The other item on the table is an egg timer, and when the sand runs out it is time to serve the tea.

This is when the magic happens. The tea maker fits snugly on top of your mug and the tea is poured without you having to do a thing (right). It is an ingenious invention, practical and lots of fun.

Loose leaf teas are what Attic (which is an acronym for ‘all the tea in China’) specialise in, both in the cafe with white molded plastic chairs and chunky tables, and increasingly via their online shop, which has a real presence in one corner of the cafe.

I chose a lapsang souchong, a black tea described on the board above the bar as strong, very smoky and invigorating. I will not disagree with that. This is fantastic tea sourced from China and served by expert staff.

The Chinese teas at Attic are all loose leaf, “as nature intended”. There is white tea, scented tea, green tea, oolong tea, pu-erh tea and black tea, every variety served in the Attic tea maker. Magical.
