I have never been to Morocco, nor sat in a Bedouin tent, but whenever I visit the Moroccan restaurant Al Bab Mansour in St Nicholas Market that is where I imagine I am. If you can find space to eat inside, it really does feel like you’re sitting in a tented structure and the food tastes all the more authentic for that.
It’s not as if the food needs to taste any more authentic than it is, because this is Moroccan food at its finest, with vegetarian and vegan dishes alongside meaty options.
On my last visit, I ate Moroccan lamb: tender lamb, prunes, potatoes, Moroccan spices and couscous. It was simply wonderful – wonderful food served in one of the most interesting resaturants in Bristol.
Take a look around you, shut your eyes, breath in the wonderful smells from the open kitchen and you have left the centre of Bristol behind for north Africa.
