When the sun is shining as it has been doing brightly for the last few days – and without any vapour trails thanks to that Icelandic volcano – people flock to every available outside space.
Bristol does not have a huge choice of pubs with large outside areas, but one is famous: the White Lion bar at the Avon Gorge Hotel, which has a huge terrace with an unrivalled view of the gorge and Suspension Bridge.
The bar is expensive, very expensive. There is normally a long wait for a drink. But there is no better terrace to visit when the sun is shining brightly.
