In a prescient bit of timing, one of the country’s leading film critics is tonight giving a talk in Bristol the day after the country’s leading film awards were presented. And on that note – go Team Bigelow!
Cinema buffs looking for something to do this evening should make their way to the Watershed at 6pm to catch a talk by Mark Kermode, the man rumoured to be stepping into Jonathan Ross’ shoes on Film 2010 when he leaves the BBC. Kermode’s talk is a dastardly ruse to promote his new book, It’s Only a Movie: Reel Life Adventures of a Screen Obsessive. Tickets are sold out but there may be returns on the door.
Kermode is best known for his film reviews with Simon Mayo on Radio Two and now on Five Live. He is also co-presents The Culture Show on BBC Two.
At tonight’s talk he promises to speak about being handbagged by Helen Mirren and being thrown out of the Cannes Film Festival for heckling in very bad French. “Outspoken, opinionated, and never lost for words… an hilarious account of a life obsessed with film,” says the blurb.
